The ancient Greek know the Thracians best because they not only have gradually conquered the Peloponnesus and the port towns of the Aegean Sea but soon convince the Thracian kings to give them towns along the Black Sea Coast for which they are paying taxes. The Helenians not only like the mysteries and rituals but also know some of the Gods of their mystical neighbours. Some of them they even take with their Thracian names - the war-god Ares, the mighty Dionysius, the healer Asclepius, the Sun-God, worshiped by the Orpheus followers - Apollonius, the brave Benedida later renamed to Arthemida etc. Thus the Thracian myths, images and spirituality are preserved in the ancient Greek culture and later in the Roman one, especially when Thrace is included in the Roman Empire in the I c.
