Before heading to the West the German tribes have lived for a long time with the Thracians along the present-day Bulgarian lands. Their tribe of Kimberi passes by the Thracian lands in I c. B.C. A documental evidence of the spiritual closeness they have with the Thracian tribes are the scenes from the famous Thracian-German caldron "Gundesdruk-kesel" in the town of Bormoze, Denmark. Later on other Germanic tribes come to the Thracian lands. Konstantin the Great himself settles 300 000 Vest Goths in 332 in Mizia and Thrace. In 391 Alarih I is chosen for a king of the Goths in Thrace and from the Novae fortress, in the present-day town of Svishtov, he heads for Rome to enter the history as the first conqueror of Rome in 410.
