The most ancient gold objects in Europe have been discovered in the settlement mound of Hotnitza in the Veliko Turnovo District. They date back to the year of 4 300 B.C. and have had a cult ritual function. At the necropolis on the northern shore of the Varna lake are discovered 3 010 gold objects with a total weight of 6,500 kg among which the earliest symbols of power - two gold scepters, a token of the existence of a ruling institution. There are no other ancient people who have buried their dead with so precious gold gifts and to have left so many treasures in the lands as gifts to the gods.
