The Dryanovo Monastery "Saint Archangel Michael" is located at the gorge of the Dryanovska River. It is surrounded by high steep rocks. Built at the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom the monastery is demolished after the fall of Bulgaria under the Ottoman yoke. The last time when the monastery has been plundered is on 10th May 1876 after the failure of the April Rebellion. In 1880 the monastery is restored and has preserved its outlook till present-day time.
From the old monastery has survived only the church which is also not in its original form. Most likely the church has had three domes. After its reconstruction from 1880 the temple hasn't been repainted. Four two-winged windows at each of the longitudinal walls give light to the church and there are two entrances with two doors at the western and northern walls. The elongated form of the monastery's yard is determined by the outlines of the deposits line of the river. At its southern part the yard becomes wider, while at the northern it becomes elongated in a narrow pass at the end of which there is a wide vaulted gate in the ground floor of the building. Next to the eastern wall of the gate there is an elongated farming building. It is built of stone and wood giving the monastery a warm picturesque outlook. The buildings at the western part of the yard are very romantic with their high pedestal floors washed by the waters of the river. In the same building there is a small door leading to a meadow on the other side of the river after crossing a small bridge. The history of the Dryanovo monastery is related to the fights of the Bulgarian people for national independence. Behind the walls of the monastery have been established revolutionary committees, working for the preparation of rebellions. After the outbreak of the April Rebellion two hundred fearless rebels from the region fight against the numerous Ottoman army for nine days. After the defeat of the rebellion the monastery is burned down. To commemorate the feat of the rebels for freedom there is a mausoleum-monument in front of the northern wall of the church.
