The Eleshinski monastery "Virgin Mary" is founded in the last years of XVI c. The inspirer and the direct supporter of the building of the monastery is the highly educated and talented Pimen Zograf from Sofia. The church of the Eleshinski Monastery is of greatest interest. There are three layers of murals. The first murals belong to the very beginning of XVII c. Only several figures and scenes have survived at the western and southern wall of the church. Among them more important are the images of "Saint Kozma", "Saint Nikola" and "Saint Mardarii". They are represented as lively men with hard and serious features. The second layer of murals is most well-preserved at the narthex. In stylistic and artistic respect the murals of the second period are considerably less expressive than those of the first layer. The third painting layer is made in 1863. Interesting is the "Doomsday" composition. The murals have characteristically bright and satiated colours creating impressions of spaciousness. The figures are slim and the drapery of the clothes is well-modeled. The iconostasis of the church is also interesting with the icons of "Virgin Mary" (1825), "Jesus Christ" (1825) and "Archangel Michail" (1827).
