The Iskretzki Monastery is hugged at the foot of the Western Stara Planina Mountains. It is a bit far away from the main road for the gorge of the Iskar River. The monastery remains isolated from the world during the Ottoman yoke. Nevertheless, significant works of art have been created here. The church has no external decoration, according to the Turkish requirements, but has interesting murals from two periods - XVII and XIX c. The older scenes of the murals are with many figures and dynamics, with harsh and impetuous movements with memorable expressive gestures. The colour scheme is of five basic colours: white, black, red, green and gold-ochre. During XIX c. here have been depicted scenes with a didactic-punishing character. The inclusion of such scenes, typical for that time, is explained with the common moralizing spirit of the Enlightenment. The artist's style creates a concept of the world, naturalness and light humour.
