The Kapinovo Monastery "Saint Nikolay Chudotvoretz" lies at a distance of 18 km south of Veliko Turnovo not far away from the village of Kapinovo. The monastery dates back to the time of the Second Bulgarian State. According to some historic documents the monastery has been plundered and burned down from the Kardzhali Turks in 1789. Later in 1835 the monastery is renovated which is understood by an inscription, preserved on the church. The monastery buildings are concentrated mainly in the eastern part. The arch-shaped two-floor bay-window wing has been built in 1856 with the donations of the Harisanov brothers from the town of Elena. The façade of this solid building is decorated with murals at the central entrance among which dominate the figures of the two Bulgarian enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. At the same part on the second floor is situated the chapel "Vavedenie Bogorodichno"/The Annunciation/ - a chamber with a high dome in the shape of an octagonal drum. The chapel is decorated with mural paintings in 1864 with the donations of the Harisanov brothers. Their group portrait is painted at the western wall of the entrance with the models of the buildings they have helped to be built. There is a well in the monastery's yard. Interesting capitols, carved details and stone relieves can be seen on the buildings. The paintings in the chapel are done by the artist Aleksi Atanasov, who has also worked in the Gorno Voden Monastery. The iconostasis of the church is a new one and is of no serious artistic value. There has been great enlightenment work going on in the monastery during XIX c.
