The Kazanluk monastery "Virgin Mary" in the town of Kazanluk is built in the period 1864-1866. The monastery has sustained the horrors of the Turkish violence during the Liberation War when the church and the housing buildings have been used as warehouses. After the Liberation the monastery is restored and widened by adding new buildings. The church is a single-chamber building. Its interior is painted by the artist Petko Iliev from Kazanluk who breaks the Revival mural tradition and works in the spirit of the contemporary clerical mural paintings of the Western Europe. All these images are damaged by the unfavourable conditions for preservation during the Liberation War. The church is famous with its big wood-carved iconostasis made in Russia. The housing buildings have the characteristic traits of the Revival architecture and date from XIX and XX c.
