The Seslavtzi Monastery "Saint Nikolai Mirakliyski" is situated at the northeastern part of the Sofia field by the present-day village of Seslavtzi. Its founders are the inhabitants of the village which have been occupied with agriculture and cattle breeding during the Ottoman yoke. The preserved inscription of the church tells about its founders. The most precious part of the monastery are its magnificent murals. According to specialists they are made by the great Bulgarian artist and literary man hiero-monk Pimen. The wall decoration follows the principles of the single-nave churches from XIV c., typical for the whole Orthodox world. The differences in the way of making the figures and the colours tell about the participation of different masters in the painting of the church. The high professional mastery of the paintings, the perfection of the compositions and the colours determine the specifics of this remarkable picturesque ensemble.
