The Sopot monastery is situated at the center of the town of Sopot. Initially it has been a small chapel which grows into a monastery. The final touches of the housing buildings take place in 1665. During the Russian-Turkish War from 1877-1878 the Ottoman army burns down the town and the monastery at its retreat from the town. After the destruction, the housing buildings are restored together with the church to their original outlook. The monastery has interesting icons among which is the temple's icon. They date from 1823. The glory of the Sopot monastery is due to the active participation of its nuns in the national liberation movement.
