The town of Iskar has a population of 4 000 inhabitants and lies at a distance of 32 km west of Pleven. Iskar is the municipal centre of 3 settlements. The town is located along the right bank of the Iskar River. The settlement is founded by immigrants from the adjacent settlement of Peserevo (present-day Pisarovo) in the beginning of XIX c. The municipality is specialized in the growing of grain and technical cultures.
