The town of Strazhitza has a population of 5 000 inhabitants and lies at a distance of 40 km northeast of Veliko Turnovo. The town is the municipal administrative centre of 21 component settlements. In the region of the town have been discovered remains from the Halcolith, a necropolis from II -III c., settlements, small fortresses from the Ancient Times and the Middle Ages. The first written evidence of the town is in the Ottoman documents from 1573 where it is written under the mane of Kada Kyoi.
