The village of Avren has a population of about 800 inhabitants and lies at a distance of 32 km northwest of Varna. Avren is the centre of a municipality with 16 component settlements. The settlement is known under the name of Momino until 1965. On the territory of Avren have been discovered the remains of a Thracian tomb and a sanctuary of a Thracian horseman, a cave monastery and some fortresses.
