The town of Aksakovo has a population of 7 000 inhabitants and lies at a distance of 12 km from Varna. Aksakovo is the municipal administrative centre of 22 component settlements. Until 1934 the town is known under the name of Azhemler. In close proximity to the town are located the famous "Pobiti Kamani" phenomenon. In the region of the municipality there are remains from a Halcolith, a Thracian and a Middle Age settlement and the Maglish fortress from XII-XV c. More about 'Varna district' :
