The town of Varshetz has a population of 7 000 inhabitants and lies at a distance of 32 km southeast of Montana. The town is the municipal centre of 9 component settlements. Varshetz is located at the foot of the Todorini Kuli peak along the northern slopes of the Stara Planina Mountains in the valley of the Botunya River.
