The town of Madzharovo is the centre of a municipality lying at a distance of 60 km southeast of Haskovo. The municipality has 18 component settlements. Madzharovo has a population of about 1 000 inhabitants and is located at the Eastern Rhdope Mountains. The settlement is known under the name of Yatadzhik until 1934.

Near Madzharovo have been discovered a Thracian fortress, sanctuaries and a necropolis.
