The town of Septemvri has a population of 9 000 inhabitants. It is an administrative centre of 19 settlements. The town lies at a distance of 21 km west of Pazardzhik. It is known under the name of Gara Saranbei until 1934. In the vicinities of Septemvri there are Thracian mounds, ruins from an ancient and a medieval settlement. There is a winery in Septemvri.
