On the territory of Plovdiv District are located the following historic landmarks - Dioclecianopol(Hissar)- an ancient Roman town, Starosel - a Thracian cult centre, Asenova fortress - a Bulgarian fortress, the Bachkovo Monastery.
The most famous natural landmarks are: part of the "Central Balkan" National Park, the "Chervenata stena" reserve (the Rhodope Mountains), the tended reserves "Chamdzha" (Stara Planina Mountains) and "Izgoryaloto gyune" (the Rhodope Mountains). In the administrative limits of the region are located the following monasteries - Sopot Bachkovo, Kuklen, Gorno Voden and Arapovo monasteries. The Plovdiv District is famous for the quality wines of popular wineries of Plovdiv, Banya, Karlovo, Asenovgrad and Brestovitza.
