The village of Kuklen is an administrative centre of 5 settlements. The village is situated at the northern slopes of the Rhodope Mountains at a distance of 12 km south of Plovdiv and has a population of 5 800 inhabitants. In the region of the village have been discovered remains of Thracian settlements, the water capture of the water-conduit supplying Philipopol with water and a medieval fortress. The settlement is registered in the Ottoman documents in 1488. 4 km west of the village is situated the Kuklen Monastery built during the period of the Second Bulgarian State.
