The village of Ruen is the administrative centre of 41 settlements. The village is situated between the Emine and Aytos part of the Eastern Stara Planina Mountains at a distance of 46 km from the district town of Burgas. It has a population of 2 000 inhabitants. The village is known under the name of Ulanlii until 1934. A Thracian tomb has been discovered in the region of the village. The village is mentioned in the Ottoman documents from XVI c.
