The town of Kresna has a population of about 4 000 inhabitants and is located at a distance of 41 km south of Blagoevgrad. Kresna is a municipal centre of 9 component settlements. Within the territory of the municipality there are remains of an ancient settlement, a Roman road and the ruins of a Middle Age church. Part of the territory of the municipality falls in the limits of the "Tissata" Reserve.
