The gold mask from the Valley of the Thracian kings from the Svetitza mound is made of gold with a weight of 673 grams. It dates back to IV c. B. C.

The massif gold mask has no parallel even among the Mycenaean gold burial masks from the late Bronze Age. It is made of thick gold sheet-iron. It has the form of a phial which makes it unique. The mask has been found together with a battle suite of a heavily armed horseman with bronze armour and sensational iron sections - a collar, sleeves, supra-abdominal piece, a buttocks' protective piece and connecting elements of rings. It is possible that this is the earliest example of a chain armour from the well-known knitted chain armours which are considered to be a Middle Age patent.
